Ludhiana Carcass Plant Fails Site Inspection
21 Dec, 2025
Summary
- Proposed carcass plant relocation faces hurdles due to inadequate vacant land.
- National Green Tribunal order necessitates finding new site by October 27, 2025.
- Inspected sites at Balloke and Bhattian lack space for the carcass plant.

The sub-divisional magistrate of Ludhiana (West) has reported to the deputy commissioner that proposed sites for the carcass plant's relocation are unsuitable due to insufficient vacant land. This report follows a National Green Tribunal order from October 27, 2025, concerning NGT case no. 289 of 2023. A committee, including representatives from various municipal and environmental bodies, was formed after a November 28, 2025, meeting to identify approximately 25 acres.
During a joint site inspection on December 2, 2025, at Balloke and Bhattian villages, where sewage treatment plants are located, officials found that neither site possessed adequate space. The existing infrastructure for wastewater treatment from Buddha Nullah occupied most of the available area. Consequently, the minimum required two to five acres for the carcass plant could not be secured.
With these findings, the joint feasibility report has been submitted to the deputy commissioner. The district administration is now assessing alternative options to meet the National Green Tribunal's requirements and address the environmental issues associated with the current carcass plant. Further actions will be taken to comply with the NGT's directives.
