31 Oct
Summary
- Lucknow's development now includes parks, urban forests, and rejuvenated ponds.
- New parks like Fragrance Park and Harmony Park are themed and interactive.
- Maintenance of green spaces is a critical challenge for long-term success.
Lucknow's urban expansion is increasingly integrating green spaces, with parks, urban forests, and rejuvenated ponds becoming key features alongside traditional development. The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) and Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) are spearheading projects across expanding areas like Ahimamau and Shaheed Path.
New additions include themed parks such as Fragrance Park, celebrating the city's perfume heritage, and Harmony Park, featuring art from recycled materials. Gautam Buddha Park has been revitalized as Happiness Park, incorporating traditional games and recycled installations.
LDA is also planning Ayurveda Park and Soumitra Van, focusing on medicinal plants and forest landscapes. LMC's efforts involve local infrastructure, including solar lighting in parks and pond beautification, alongside integrating 88 new villages into municipal limits.
Urban planners highlight that smaller green spaces and Miyawaki forests can enhance neighbourhoods where large parks are not feasible. However, the long-term success of these initiatives hinges on effective maintenance, addressing challenges like upkeep of trees, lighting, pathways, and preventing encroachment.
