Leopardess Caught After Farmer's Deadly Attack

An adult leopardess, believed to be responsible for the death of an 88-year-old man, was trapped late Monday night. The incident occurred near the Kakraha forest range of Katarniaghat wildlife sanctuary. The five-year-old feline was captured in a cage set with live bait around 11 pm.
Sanctuary veterinarians confirmed the leopardess was healthy and showed no signs of injury or deformity. Pug marks found at the attack site supported the suspicion that this particular animal was involved. The victim was sleeping outside his home early Saturday morning when the attack happened.
Following directives from the chief wildlife warden, forest officials decided to release the trapped leopardess into a remote wild area. This measure aims to prevent the animal from returning to the vicinity of human settlements and mitigate future human-wildlife conflict.
