Aishwarya Sridhar, the first Indian woman to win the Wildlife Photographer of the Year award, has released "Leopard Dynasty: The Rise of Rana." Her inspiration came from a Facebook post about Rana, a young leopard in Jaipur's Jhalana Leopard Reserve, which became the subject of her documentary.
Filming began in February 2023 and spanned over a year, capturing Rana's growth and territorial challenges. Sridhar recounts a dramatic hunt where Rana successfully preyed on a nilgai, a creature significantly larger than himself, demonstrating remarkable perseverance.
The 52-minute film, compiled from nearly 50 TB of footage, features a Bollywood-inspired aesthetic with dramatic music and storytelling. Sridhar, who grew up with abundant wildlife, aims to use entertainment to foster conservation awareness and create emotional connections to nature.
