20 Jan
Summary
- Gorse Hill City Farm faced closure due to hay shortage.
- Public donations raised over £8,500 for the farm.
- Donations ensured animal feed until at least March.

Gorse Hill City Farm in Leicester had appealed for urgent assistance due to a critical shortage of hay for its over 100 animals. The situation was so dire that farm management considered closure as a possibility.
However, a remarkable outpouring of public support has since emerged. An online donation page has collected more than £8,500, and several farmers have contributed physical bales of hay. This generosity has significantly eased the farm's financial and logistical burdens.
Farm manager Dayle Lefort expressed deep gratitude, stating the donations were "heartwarming" and would enable the farm to operate through to at least the beginning of March. The immediate influx of feed will directly nourish the animals, alleviating the stress previously felt by the farm team.
