Nashik's upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela is slated for a significant environmental upgrade, focusing on sustainability and cleaner operations. The technical advisory committee of the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority (NTKMA) has strongly advocated for the adoption of electric vehicles to handle sanitation tasks, a move designed to drastically cut down pollution.
This push for a 'green and sustainable Kumbh Mela' also encompasses a detailed solid waste management strategy for the entire festival area. Recommendations include ensuring sufficient toilets and urinals, particularly around ghats, and equipping facilities with hand-washing stations.
Furthermore, the plan involves dedicated sanitation workers, proper wastewater disposal systems, and the integration of women's self-help groups in waste collection efforts. Initiatives for menstrual hygiene management are also prioritized for female devotees.
The authority is set to finalize zone-wise waste management plans and water-filling station maps. Training for sanitation workers and contractors will be completed well before the Mela begins, ensuring all sustainable sanitation measures are effectively implemented.
