Kudremukh Trails Shut Amidst Monsoon Deluge

Heavy rainfall in Karnataka's Western Ghats has led to the temporary suspension of trekking activities in the Kudremukh Wildlife Division. The Forest Department has closed the trekking routes across key zones, including Kudremukh, Belthangady, and Kerekatte, due to safety concerns stemming from continuous rain. The trails have become slippery, streams have overflowed, and the risk of falling trees and branches has increased significantly.

Forest officials are closely monitoring the weather situation before deciding on reopening the trekking routes. While a bridge near Kalasa temporarily saw a rise in water levels, it has since receded. Trekking activities will only resume after assessing rainfall intensity and confirming trail safety. No loss of life has been reported, though fallen trees have been noted.

The Forest Department confirmed that trekkers with advance bookings through its official portal will receive full refunds. Registered trekkers are being notified via messages about the suspension and refund process. Meanwhile, the Kodachadri safari service continues to operate as usual, unaffected by the current weather.
