On October 19, 2025, the Kodagu district administration in India has made it clear that only green firecrackers are permitted to be sold and used during the upcoming Deepavali festival. The authorities have appealed to the public to safeguard public health and property by adhering to the prescribed environmental standards.
According to the statement issued by Kodagu Deputy Commissioner Venkata Raja, the sale or use of any other types of firecrackers is strictly prohibited. Firecracker sellers must obtain permission for sale and storage from the concerned departments. The Supreme Court and National Green Tribunal have allowed the bursting of green firecrackers with the green logo and QR code between 8 PM and 10 PM only.
The district administration has also organized a district-level awareness program on celebrating an eco-friendly, green Deepavali. Students and communities have been urged to avoid bursting firecrackers and promote sustainable celebrations. Authorities have warned that any violation of these rules will attract strict legal action against the offenders.
