King Charles Opens New Coastal Path for All
23 Mar
Summary
- King Charles inaugurated a new coastal path near Beachy Head.
- The route traverses diverse landscapes and withstands erosion.
- Scotland may see a similar coastal way by 2030.

King Charles officially inaugurated a significant new coastal path last week at a ceremony in Seven Sisters, East Sussex. This path offers walkers a journey through diverse landscapes, from dramatic clifftops to tranquil salt flats, passing through charming coastal towns.
A key feature of this new route is its design to combat coastal erosion and the effects of climate change. Should parts of the path be impacted, it can be relocated inland, ensuring a continuous walking experience.
While Scotland benefits from existing right-to-roam laws covering much of its coast, there are forward-thinking plans for a Scottish Coastal Way, potentially by 2030. This initiative aims to connect various existing coastal walks into a single, cohesive route, mirroring the ambition of the newly opened path.
The trail's accessibility extends beyond physical exploration, with a presence on Google Street Maps for virtual tours. Notable sections include the Lincolnshire coast for seal pup viewing and a new Suffolk path crossing salt marshes, alongside newly accessible marshland in Kent and improved clifftop walks in the North West.
