King Charles Honors Cairngorms Wildfire Heroes

King Charles recently visited the An Lochan Uaine, also known as the Green Lochan, in the Cairngorms National Park. His visit was to express "admiration and appreciation" to the volunteers, firefighters, and landowners who tirelessly worked to control the devastating wildfire that began on July 15. This blaze impacted approximately 3,300 hectares and persisted for almost five weeks, leading to significant evacuations.

During the event, King Charles met with representatives from various organizations, including the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the Cairngorms National Park Authority. He discussed the firefighting efforts and the damage caused by the fire, expressing relief that the area had received some rain. He also celebrated a new twinning partnership between the Cairngorms and the Shenandoah National Park in the United States, marking their shared ancient geological origins by unveiling a piece of granite from Shenandoah.
