Killin Water Safe After Fuel Spill Scare
24 Feb
Summary
- Tap water restrictions lifted for 500 households and businesses.
- Pollution incident caused by suspected fuel theft into River Dochart.
- Scottish Water conducted extensive flushing and rigorous sampling.

Tap water restrictions in Killin have been fully lifted, with residents and businesses now able to use their water supply for drinking and cooking. The 'Do Not Use' notice was in effect for about 500 properties after a pollution incident involving oil in the River Dochart. This spillage was suspected to stem from a fuel theft at a local petrol station.
Scottish Water implemented the restrictions on Friday evening, initially advising against using tap water for drinking and food preparation. By Sunday evening, restrictions for washing were eased. Following extensive flushing of the network and round-the-clock laboratory testing, Scottish Water confirmed on Tuesday that all restrictions are removed, deeming the supply safe for public health. Water will be sourced temporarily from elsewhere while the local treatment works are prepared for full operation.
