Kerala Prepares: NDRF Deploys 8 Teams for Monsoon
21 May
Summary
- Eight NDRF teams deployed across Kerala districts for monsoon preparedness.
- Deployment follows Kerala State Disaster Management Authority's request.
- Teams are on standby due to the India Meteorological Department's forecast.

In preparation for the Southwest Monsoon 2026, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed eight specialized teams across Kerala. This proactive measure, comprising 30 rescuers per team, addresses a request from the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) and is a direct response to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) forecast of an early monsoon onset.
The deployed NDRF teams are stationed in key districts including Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, and Wayanad. These districts are historically prone to heavy rainfall, severe flooding, and landslides, necessitating comprehensive preparedness.
Furthermore, four additional NDRF teams have been deployed in Tamil Nadu, covering areas like Ooty and Tirunelveli, with other teams stationed in Chennai and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A 24/7 control room in Arakkonam is actively monitoring the situation, coordinating with Kerala's State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) to track weather updates and ensure swift emergency responses throughout the monsoon season.
