19 Jun
Summary
- A viral video spurred action on a stalled bridge project.
- Land acquisition for approach roads is underway.
- The bridge has been unusable since 2017.

The long-awaited bridge connecting Koyampalli and Melapalayam villages in Karur is finally progressing towards completion. This development follows a viral video showcasing villagers and school students appealing for the bridge's finalization. The structure, initiated by the state highways department in 2017, has remained unusable due to the absence of approach roads.
Residents have faced significant inconvenience, resorting to wading through the Amaravati river or taking a 15km detour. Following the viral video and a visit from state highway officials, the Karur district collector inspected the land acquisition process for the approach roads. Officials anticipate this acquisition will conclude within five months, with the subsequent construction phase expected to take an additional five to six months.
