Forest Friends: Youngsters Bring Water to Thirsty Wildlife
31 May
Summary
- Youth group installs water troughs in Bidar's arid forests.
- Action inspired by a monkey's struggle to find water.
- Over 40 members ensure daily water refills for animals.

During the intense heat of the 2026 summer, a group of friends in Bidar, Karnataka, known as Swabhimani Geleyara Balaga, have undertaken a critical mission to support local wildlife. Temperatures in Bidar regularly soar to 44 degrees Celsius, severely depleting natural water sources and impacting animals and birds. The initiative began after a group member witnessed a monkey struggling to find water, prompting a commitment to provide relief.
This association, formed over a decade ago with an initial focus on tree planting and water table recharge, has now expanded its efforts to include direct animal aid. They have installed large cement water troughs across forest areas in Nagora, Chidri, Shahapur, and Nirnada. With over 200 members, 40 are actively involved in daily water replenishment, ensuring the troughs, each holding 120 liters, are consistently full for thirsty creatures.
Recognizing that even insects suffer from the heat, the group also ensures safe water access for smaller creatures. Members, including professionals and lecturers, carry water in 20-liter cans or use tractors for refills, demonstrating a profound commitment to the welfare of Bidar's voiceless inhabitants amidst the harsh summer conditions.
