26 Mar
Summary
- KSPCA urges strict action against vehicles with modified silencers.
- Noise and smoke from illegal silencers cause health issues.
- Police urged to conduct drives and penalize offenders.

The Karnataka State Police Complaints Authority (KSPCA) has initiated a call for strict and continuous action against vehicles fitted with illegal modified silencers and loud horns. This directive aims to curb the growing menace of noise and environmental pollution across the state, especially in urban centers like Bengaluru.
The authority highlighted that modified silencers on two-wheelers and other vehicles are a significant source of disruptive noise and smoke. The problem has spread to residential areas, affecting sensitive locations such as schools, hospitals, and places of worship. Continuous exposure to high-decibel noise is a serious health concern, potentially leading to hearing impairment and increased stress levels.
In response, the KSPCA has recommended that police stations statewide conduct special drives to impound vehicles with illegal silencers. They also called for legal action against the workshops responsible for these modifications under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Bengaluru traffic police have already commenced such drives, focusing on booking offenders and enhancing road safety.
