Kalaburagi Faces Heat: Urgent Call for Mass Tree Planting
13 Jul
Summary
- Environmentalists urge large-scale tree planting to combat rising temperatures.
- Villages in Kalaburagi recorded extreme heat at 44°C to 45.5°C.
- Students are encouraged to plant saplings to foster environmental resilience.

Environmentalist Shailendra Kavadi has stressed the urgent need for widespread tree plantation across Kalaburagi district to address escalating temperatures and preserve biodiversity. He highlighted that climate change is already significantly impacting the region, evidenced by recurring heatwaves.
During the recent summer, Aurad (B) village experienced temperatures around 44°C to 45°C, while Ainapur recorded a high of 45.5°C. This underscores the immediate threat to ecosystems and biodiversity, with the potential loss of species like butterflies having cascading effects.
Mr. Kavadi encouraged local residents and institutions to initiate extensive afforestation efforts, particularly in heat-prone areas. He also appealed to students to actively participate by planting and nurturing saplings under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, promoting the message 'Grow forests, save the land'. The headmaster of Karnataka Public School, Aurad (B), Gopal Chavan, supported this call, emphasizing the role of human activities in environmental degradation.
