India's second pangolin breeding and conservation center, the first for Bengal, is now established in Jhargram. This new facility at Jangalmohal Zoological Park will support efforts to protect pangolin species facing endangerment.
Complementing this, south Bengal's inaugural 24-hour elephant monitoring center has been launched. Equipped with over 16 AI cameras across key ranges, it provides real-time tracking of elephant movements, enabling swift responses from forest officials.
The Jhargram Zoological Park has also seen significant upgrades with the inauguration of new animal enclosures. These include a nearly complete tiger enclosure and an ongoing lion enclosure construction, alongside a ready crocodile trench awaiting three crocodiles from Alipore Zoo.
Infrastructure development at the zoo has involved substantial investment, including temperature-controlled incubators for bird eggs and specialized enclosures. Future plans include additional AI cameras and thermal drones for elephant monitoring, alongside new enclosures for emus and ostriches.
