Janakpuri Residents Demand Fresh Water Testing Amid Ongoing Contamination

As of 2025-10-30T12:23:44+00:00, residents of Janakpuri's A-1 Block in West Delhi are still grappling with a water crisis, despite the Delhi Jal Board's (DJB) claims of replacing corroded pipelines and finding the water "satisfactory."

In a detailed submission to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) last week, the Residents' Welfare Association (RWA) has accused the DJB of "deceit," citing independent lab reports that show alarmingly high levels of E.coli (up to 24,000 MPN/100 ml) and faecal coliform (up to 92,000 MPN/100 ml) in the water supply. The RWA says there has been "no verifiable improvement" in either water quality or public health, with residents continuing to report foul-smelling and visibly contaminated water.

The RWA has also raised concerns about the DJB's pipeline replacement work, alleging that barely 28% of the 730-meter stretch has been completed in over five weeks, despite a 60-day deadline. The RWA has accused the DJB of hiding the state of the adjoining sewer line, which it says requires simultaneous replacement, rendering the entire operation "technically meaningless."

Residents have urged the NGT for a fresh round of testing by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the replacement of both water and sewer lines within a time-bound manner to address the "public-health emergency" they are facing.
