Monsoon Ready: Jamshedpur Cleans Up!
24 Jul
Summary
- Intensive sanitation drive launched in Jamshedpur ahead of monsoon.
- Day and night shifts deployed across all 32 municipal wards.
- Modern machinery engaged for drain cleaning and desilting operations.

The Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC) in Jamshedpur commenced an intensive sanitation drive on Friday, July 24, 2026, in preparation for the peak monsoon season. This comprehensive effort focuses on clearing street garbage, unblocking drains, and enhancing overall cleanliness throughout the town's 32 municipal wards.
Mayor Sudha Gupta announced that the campaign will operate in both day and night shifts to accelerate cleaning operations. For streamlined management, Mango has been strategically divided into three distinct zones. The civic body is prioritizing the cleaning and desilting of major drains in key areas such as Jawaharnagar, Old Purulia Road, and Dimna Road.
To support this critical initiative, MMC has partnered with Tata Steel Utility and Infrastructure Services Ltd (TSUISL), which has deployed advanced heavy machinery for efficient drain cleaning. Despite these efforts, some residents, like Umesh Thakur from Payal Cinema Road, have expressed concern over the drive's delayed start, noting that recent rains have already caused drain overflows due to clogging.
Jamshedpur, a densely populated urban center with approximately 3.25 lakh residents, generates about 52 metric tonnes of solid waste daily. The corporation's special exercise aims to bolster routine waste collection and reduce the likelihood of overflowing drains in crowded neighborhoods as monsoon rains become more frequent.
