Sewage Floods Jaipur River Restoration
5 Apr
Summary
- Untreated sewage discharged into Dravyavati River at multiple points.
- Unauthorized sewage lines connected to rainwater drains.
- Additional 20 MLD sewage load to be diverted to old STP.

A joint inspection has uncovered widespread discharge of untreated sewage into Jaipur's Dravyavati River, significantly hindering restoration efforts. Multiple points along the 40-km river corridor were found to have direct sewage connections. Officials from the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC), and Rajasthan Pollution Control Board conducted the inspection on Friday. They are now preparing an action plan to address these violations.
Inspectors identified illegal linkages where sewer lines were connected to rainwater drainage systems flowing into the river. This issue has led to both direct pollution and an overload of the four sewage treatment plants built under the Dravyavati River Rejuvenation Project. A specific contamination hotspot was noted in the Sushilpura area. To manage an additional 20 MLD of sewage from Sushilpura, JDA intends to lay new pipelines to divert wastewater to the Taruchhaya Nagar STP, aiming for a resolution within the next three months.
