Rajasthan's First Water-Positive Airport: Jaipur Leads
28 Apr
Summary
- Jaipur Airport is Rajasthan's first water-positive facility.
- It replenishes more water than it consumes through conservation.
- Certification was awarded by global consulting firm Bureau Veritas.

Jaipur International Airport has achieved water positivity, a first for Rajasthan and a select few Indian airports. This means the facility now replenishes more water than it consumes, effectively becoming a water provider rather than a consumer.
Officials reported that between April 2025 and March 2026, the airport conserved 137.09 MLD of water through recharge pits and recycling, surpassing its consumption of 103.39 MLD. This achievement was verified by Bureau Veritas.
Key strategies include 100% recycling and reuse of treated wastewater for gardening, reduced freshwater consumption via sensor taps and waterless urinals, and extensive rainwater harvesting with 18 deep aquifer recharge pits.
This initiative highlights the airport's commitment to water stewardship in a water-scarce region, ensuring long-term resilience through operational sustainability.
