The Republic of Ireland's water supplier, Uisce Éireann, announced on Wednesday an extension of the hosepipe ban in 13 counties. This continued restriction, primarily affecting Dublin and Wicklow, is in place because water sources in the east and south are still under pressure and need additional time to recover. Residents in these areas are urged to maintain conservation efforts and avoid non-essential water use until the end of September.
Conversely, the ban will be lifted in the remaining counties, including Donegal and Sligo, effective Wednesday evening. This change is attributed to an improvement in water availability and increased rainfall, allowing for a return to normal usage. The initial Water Conservation Order, issued on July 24th, prohibited the use of hosepipes for various activities such as watering gardens, washing vehicles, and filling ornamental water features.
