Eagle Rescued After Fierce Fight in Big Bear

An adult bald eagle was rescued from Big Bear Lake on Saturday night by wildlife officials after sustaining injuries in a fight. The San Dimas Raptor Rescue team made a more than two-hour journey to the location after the eagle was observed on the ground following a brief altercation with two other subadult eagles. Although the adult was able to defend itself, it was left unable to fly.

The injured bird was transported to a specialized rehabilitation facility that is authorized and equipped to care for bald eagles. Local wildlife organization Friends of Big Bear Valley is collaborating with LA County Parks regarding the rescue. While the identity of the rescued eagle is currently unclear, officials noted that the well-known matriarch, Jackie, has not been seen on nesting cameras for several days. The public is asked not to contact the rescue team directly for updates, as information will be shared by appropriate organizations.
