Indore is gearing up for a unique Zero Waste Navratri Festival, scheduled from October 11 to 20, 2026. This initiative aims to celebrate the festival with an emphasis on cleanliness, eco-friendliness, and waste reduction.
Organizers are encouraging the use of clay idols and eco-friendly decorations at pandals. A stringent waste management system will be in place, with dedicated bins for wet waste, dry waste, and puja materials like flowers and fruits.
Waste segregation will extend to prasad distribution and community feasts. The festival also incorporates a water conservation campaign, urging citizens to use water wisely due to low rainfall this year.
To promote participation, the Indore Municipal Corporation will document and assess pandals on cleanliness, environmental protection, and waste management. The top three pandals will be recognized and honored.
