India's Green Power Surges Past 300 GW Milestone

India has achieved a significant milestone, with its installed non-fossil fuel power capacity now exceeding 300 GW as of July 31, 2026. This remarkable growth means that clean energy sources now account for over 54 percent of the country's total installed electricity generation capacity. This advancement is a key step toward meeting the ambitious national target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) highlighted that this current capacity represents over 60 percent of that future goal.

The achievement was celebrated during the first regional roadshow for the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo (BRE Summit) 2026, scheduled to take place in New Delhi from November 2 to 5. These roadshows aim to foster a nationwide outreach and align state-level capabilities with the country's renewable energy objectives. Officials emphasized that India's transition to clean energy is a unified national mission, with resource-rich states like Rajasthan playing a pivotal role in its success. Rajasthan, for instance, is expanding its focus beyond solar to include wind-solar hybrids, battery storage, and green hydrogen.

The BRE Summit is designed to unite the entire renewable energy value chain, offering a platform for policy translation into actionable projects, investment, and technological partnerships. Following the Jaipur event, similar roadshows are planned for Mumbai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Bengaluru, and Kolkata in the coming weeks, underscoring the nationwide effort to accelerate the clean energy transition.
