India's First Slender Loris Centre Opens!

India's inaugural conservation centre dedicated to the slender loris has been virtually inaugurated in Ayyalur, Dindigul district. This groundbreaking facility, the first of its kind in the nation, is poised to bolster efforts in safeguarding the threatened nocturnal primate.
The Tamil Nadu government established the Kadavur Slender Loris Sanctuary, spanning over 11,806 hectares across Dindigul and Karur districts. This sanctuary provides a crucial protected habitat for the species.
Costing ₹16.04 crore, the conservation centre boasts amenities such as an interpretation centre, eco-trails, and night observation facilities. It is designed to enhance scientific research, habitat restoration, and community engagement for the slender loris.
Environment Secretary Supriya Sahu highlighted the centre's role in strengthening conservation strategies and promoting awareness about the species and its dryland ecosystem. Several officials attended the inauguration.
