India Braces for Active Weather: Rain, Thunderstorms Loom

India is set to experience active weather starting September 19, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting significant rainfall across northwest, central, east, west, and southern parts of the country. Conditions are becoming favorable for the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from parts of West Rajasthan around this date.

Northern regions, including Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, and West Rajasthan, are likely to see isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning on September 19. East Rajasthan can expect similar conditions from September 19-22, with isolated heavy rainfall on the 19th. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are also forecast to have isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning from September 19-24.

Central India, particularly West and East Madhya Pradesh, will likely receive widespread rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning on September 19. Chhattisgarh is projected to have widespread rainfall from September 19-24, with isolated heavy rainfall expected later in the week. Vidarbha and East Madhya Pradesh will also experience significant rainfall.

Eastern India, including Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, anticipates isolated heavy rainfall on September 19, followed by scattered rainfall. Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand are forecast to have widespread and scattered rainfall respectively. Odisha may experience isolated heavy rainfall on September 19, with moderate to severe lightning activity warned over Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal.

Northeast India is expected to receive isolated to scattered rainfall from September 19-23, with isolated heavy rainfall over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on September 19-20. Thunderstorms and lightning are also forecast for these northeastern states.

Western India, including Gujarat, Saurashtra, Kutch, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada, will see varying degrees of rainfall from September 19 onwards. Isolated heavy rainfall is predicted for Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan during specific periods, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.

Southern India, covering Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, and various Karnataka regions, is expected to receive widespread rainfall throughout the forecast period. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal will also experience isolated to scattered rainfall, with some areas potentially seeing heavy rainfall and gusty winds.

The IMD has issued warnings for fishermen due to rough sea conditions in parts of the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, effective until September 23. These warnings cover specific coastal areas and sea regions, advising caution.
