The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a comprehensive weather alert for Monday, forecasting a mix of severe conditions across India. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in isolated areas of Assam, Meghalaya, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, with heavy showers also expected in Arunachal Pradesh and the northeastern states of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
Across northern, eastern, and central India, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds up to 50 kmph are predicted for states including Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan. Similar conditions are forecast for parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Southern India is not spared, with heavy rainfall likely in Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana. Meanwhile, isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha are forecast to experience heatwave conditions.
Looking ahead, widespread rainfall is expected to continue over northeast India and parts of coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and Lakshadweep throughout the week. The IMD has warned of localized flooding, waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and reduced visibility due to heavy rains, and potential damage to infrastructure from thunderstorms and strong winds. Heatwave conditions pose a risk of heat-related illnesses.
