India's Monsoon: Uneven Rains to Persist
12 Jul
Summary
- Heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast for Northeast and East India.
- Northwest, central, and peninsular India expected to see below-normal rain.
- Low to moderate flash flood risk issued for Assam and Meghalaya districts.

India is bracing for a period of uneven monsoon activity. The Northeast and parts of eastern India, including West Bengal and Bihar, are forecast to receive isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next two to three days. East Uttar Pradesh is also likely to experience heavy showers for the next four to five days.
Simultaneously, much of northwest, central, and peninsular India is projected to remain relatively dry, with below-normal rainfall expected through mid-July. A low to moderate flash flood risk has been issued for specific districts in Assam and Meghalaya, highlighting concerns about saturated soils and potential flooding in low-lying areas.
In northern India, widespread rainfall is anticipated over Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan may see isolated to scattered showers. Central India's Chhattisgarh faces isolated heavy showers, while western India's Gujarat and Maharashtra are expected to receive scattered rain, with potential intensification in Konkan & Goa.
Looking ahead, the Northeast, eastern India, and the western Himalayan region will likely see continued widespread rainfall through mid-July. However, rainfall over much of northwest India, central India, and the southern peninsula is projected to remain below normal. An exception is Kerala and parts of east-central India, which are expected to receive above-normal rainfall between July 16-22.
