Monsoon Alert: India Braces for Heavy Rains & Flash Floods

Widespread monsoon activity is anticipated across India, with significant rainfall expected in northern, eastern, central, northeastern, and southern regions through September 5. Odisha and Chhattisgarh are forecast to experience extremely heavy rainfall on August 31, while Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh may see very heavy showers. Eastern and northeastern India could also face heavy to very heavy rain. Delhi, after a period of warm weather with highs up to 37°C on August 31, is expected to receive light rain and thunderstorms from September 1, with more noticeable heat relief by September 2. In northwest India, states like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are predicted to have rainfall, with Uttarakhand facing very heavy rain through September 1. Central India, including Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, will likely remain wet, with heavy rainfall predicted for certain periods. Eastern India will continue to see sustained rain, affecting West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Bihar. Southern India, particularly coastal Karnataka and Kerala, is also expected to experience widespread rain, accompanied by potential thunderstorms and gusty winds. The northeastern states are forecast to remain wet throughout the week, with heavy rain likely in several areas. Authorities have flagged a low to moderate flash flood risk in parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand.
