TERI has launched LaBL 2.0 (Lighting a Billion Lives 2.0) in New Delhi, a program focused on leveraging decentralized renewable energy for green livelihoods and women-led entrepreneurship. This initiative expands beyond energy access to promote the productive use of DRE, foster local clean energy value chains, and ensure robust carbon accounting.
The launch event featured the release of a joint policy paper with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), underscoring the alignment of DRE expansion with India's net-zero 2070 target. TERI's Director General highlighted the importance of providing energy access and affordability for rural community development.
LaBL 2.0 introduces flagship initiatives like the Hastinapur Model City and a DRE Carbon Credit Program. These aim to integrate DRE models with credible monitoring frameworks, facilitating access to climate finance and carbon markets. The program seeks to make grassroots clean energy projects investment-ready and globally credible.
This next-generation program builds on the legacy of the original Lighting a Billion Lives initiative. It emphasizes community-led clean energy solutions, supporting women entrepreneurs and enhancing climate accountability to contribute to national and global sustainability goals.
