Illegal RMC Plant Threatens Mumbai's Protected Mangroves

Versova police in Mumbai have registered an FIR against a contractor appointed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The contractor is accused of violating the Environment Protection Act by establishing a Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plant in close proximity to a protected mangrove forest.
The legal action stems from complaints initially filed on the state's Aaple Sarkar portal on August 5, 2025, and later on the Mangroves Protection app on December 2, 2025. These complaints triggered an inspection by revenue and forest officials.
During their site visit, authorities discovered that the BMC-appointed contractor had not only set up a sewerage treatment plant but also the RMC plant. Crucially, the RMC facility was found to be situated within 50 meters of the protected mangrove forest, a clear violation of environmental norms.
Consequently, an FIR was lodged against the contractor for proceeding with the plant's construction without the mandatory permission from the forest department. This highlights a significant environmental breach within a protected ecological zone.
