Residents from across the city expressed alarm on Saturday regarding sewage contamination of lakes, leading to foul odors and a surge in mosquito populations. During a phone-in program, HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath engaged directly with complainants, assuring them that officials have been tasked to resolve these pressing environmental issues within a week.
The agency's jurisdiction, however, was clarified to be limited to areas within the Outer Ring Road. HYDRAA has initiated lake development in phases, with 14 more slated for improvement. Many grievances centered on encroachments of lakes, parks, and public lands, with specific complaints from Gagillapur and Attapur detailing illegal plotting and land grabbing.
In a separate enforcement action, HYDRAA recently sealed two five-story buildings in Neknampur village. These structures were built on land designated for public utilities, where authorities allege fake documents were used to claim private ownership and obtain building permissions. Similar illegal construction was halted on another plot reserved for a park or septic tank within the same layout.
