Starting March 31, Hull residents will experience a shift to weekly collections for their brown bins, which handle food and garden waste, and food caddies. This move replaces the existing fortnightly service for most households in the city. The initiative is a key part of Hull City Council's commitment to enhancing recycling efforts and environmental sustainability.
Councillor Charles Quinn highlighted that these expanded collections align with the government's Simpler Recycling mandate, requiring weekly food waste collections nationwide. To manage the increased service, Hull City Council has recruited 70 new workers. A dedicated web app will also be introduced to provide residents with timely reminders and updates regarding their collection schedules.
