2 Dec
Summary
- Hull City Council removes cycle route barriers.
- New access controls will include lockable bollards and drop kerbs.
- Work aims to make routes accessible to all by April 2026.

Hull City Council has announced plans to dismantle bollards and barriers from various cycle routes across the city. This move aims to significantly enhance accessibility for a wider range of users. The authority will invest in new access controls, including sophisticated lockable bollards and improved drop kerbs, particularly in the western areas of Hull.
Older anti-social behaviour deterrents, such as concrete bollards, will be either relocated, reduced in number, or completely removed. These adjustments are designed to facilitate easier passage for pedestrians, cyclists, and individuals using wheelchairs or mobility scooters, thereby promoting more inclusive travel options within the city.
The council anticipates completing these improvement works by April 2026. This proactive approach is expected to encourage more residents to utilize the cycle infrastructure and help divert traffic away from more congested areas.
