- Water quality significantly improved across eastern Qinghai.

An extensive 5.51 billion yuan ecological restoration project in the Huangshui River Basin has entered its final stages, successfully restoring over 157,200 hectares of land in eastern Qinghai province. This initiative, part of China's 14th Five-Year Plan, aims to fortify the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau's ecological security through comprehensive conservation efforts.
The project addresses critical issues such as soil erosion and ecosystem degradation, dividing the basin into units for targeted restoration. Measures include improving forest and grassland functions, maintaining valley ecosystems, and enhancing river systems. Notably, 69,300 hectares of forest and 42,400 hectares of grassland have been restored.
Coordinated through a robust three-level governance mechanism, the project utilizes digital supervision and monthly reporting to ensure effective implementation and funding management. Social benefits have also emerged, with local employment opportunities and improved public spaces in urban areas like Xining.
According to Qinghai's 2025 environmental bulletin, the Huangshui River's water quality has reached Grade II or better, demonstrating the project's positive impact. This comprehensive approach has equipped Qinghai with valuable experience in cross-departmental and multi-element ecological conservation and systematic governance.
