Corteva Pulls Controversial Herbicide After Years of Lawsuits
11 Feb
Summary
- Corteva Agriscience is voluntarily canceling the Enlist Duo herbicide.
- The herbicide contains 2,4-D and glyphosate, linked to cancer risks.
- Environmental groups have fought its approval since 2015.

Corteva Agriscience has announced its decision to voluntarily cancel the production and sales of its herbicide, Enlist Duo, in the United States. This move comes after years of legal challenges and advocacy from environmental groups, including the Center for Food Safety (CFS), which has been questioning the herbicide's approval since 2015.
Enlist Duo is a combination of 2,4-D and glyphosate, both of which have been associated with significant health and environmental concerns. Studies have linked 2,4-D exposure to increased oxidative stress and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, while the World Health Organization has classified glyphosate as "probably carcinogenic to humans." CFS also noted concerns about spray drift and harm to non-target species.
The company stated that Enlist Duo accounted for less than 1 percent of its total U.S. sales, and this cancellation is part of a portfolio streamlining effort. Enlist One, another product, will remain on the market. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has yet to issue a final cancellation announcement but noted that the registrant voluntarily cancelled the product registration last year.
