20 Feb
Summary
- Office heads are now responsible for stray dogs on their premises.
- Mandatory tree planting initiatives aim for a greener Hassan.
- Strict waste disposal rules are being enforced for cleaner cities.

In Hassan district, a new directive holds heads of government offices and private institutions accountable for the presence of stray dogs within their premises. Deputy Commissioner K.S. Latha Kumari announced this at a progress review meeting, stressing the mandatory reporting of stray dog issues to local authorities. The meeting also focused on environmental enhancement projects within urban local bodies.
Under the 'Green Hassan' initiative, a significant emphasis is placed on increasing tree cover along city roads. Officials were instructed to plant over 5,000 trees within the municipal corporation's jurisdiction and an additional 2,000 in city and town council areas to foster a greener urban landscape. Furthermore, efforts will be made to clear roads and footpaths for public convenience and to penalize nighttime waste dumping.
The DC also highlighted the importance of public awareness campaigns regarding proper waste disposal and safeguarding drinking water sources. Hotels, bars, and restaurants are specifically required to place waste bins outside their establishments to prevent littering and maintain neighborhood cleanliness. This comprehensive approach aims to create a cleaner, greener, and more hygienic environment for the district's residents.
