Haryana Intensifies Yamuna Cleanup: Projects Shift to Ground Execution

Haryana has intensified its Yamuna rejuvenation drive, with a directive to expedite key pollution-control projects. Progress is being made on sewage treatment plants (STPs), common effluent treatment plants (CETPs), and solid waste management across urban centers.
Major STP projects in Gurgaon and Faridabad are advancing, with bids opening in August and September. Work on plants in Sonipat and Panipat is also set to commence soon. Industrial wastewater treatment is being bolstered by new CETPs.
The state is rolling out a dedicated sewage management plan for rural areas along the river. Additionally, 13 sewage-affected water bodies across Faridabad, Karnal, Panipat, and Sonipat are slated for restoration by December 31, 2027.
Solid waste management strategies are in place for 33 urban local bodies, with contracts awarded and tendering underway. Plans also include three biogas plants to process organic waste in Sonipat, Faridabad, and Yamunanagar.
