3 Sep
Summary
- ₹1.78 crore compensation is still due from 22 stone-crusher units.
- NGT has given the HSPCB four weeks for a new status report.
- Recovered funds must be used for air pollution mitigation.

Environmental compensation totaling ₹1.78 crore is still outstanding from 22 stone-crusher units operating in Mahendragarh, Haryana. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has mandated that the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) submit an updated status report on the recovery efforts within the next four weeks.
Initially, ₹5.39 crore was imposed on 88 units; however, as of May 15, 2026, ₹3.61 crore had been recovered from 67 units, leaving ₹1.78 crore pending from 22 units. The NGT has stressed that the collected compensation must be allocated for air pollution mitigation and restoration projects in Mahendragarh, with the HSPCB overseeing its utilization in coordination with the district administration.
The NGT also noted the pending carrying-capacity report from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), which is crucial for regulating stone-crushing activities. This report was due over a year ago, highlighting a delay in assessing the district's environmental limits for such operations. The case is scheduled for further review on November 17.
