Haryana witnessed a dramatic increase in electricity consumption on Saturday, July 18, 2026, driven by intense heat and a lack of monsoon rainfall. This surge led to widespread, long, unscheduled power outages across the state.
Protests erupted in districts like Bhiwani, Hisar, and Panipat as villagers voiced their frustration. The combined consumption by DHBVN and UHBVN rose by 32.18% year-on-year, reaching 3,135.42 lakh units. Mahendragarh district saw the steepest increase in consumption within the DHBVN area.
Power Minister Anil Vij attributed the rising demand to the intense summer, increased agricultural needs, and industrial activity. He assured that the government's advance planning, power procurement, and network strengthening efforts have maintained an uninterrupted supply. Field officers are on round-the-clock duty to manage substations and feeders.
