Gurugram RWAs Face Crackdown on Diesel Generators
15 Oct
Summary
- Non-compliant diesel generators banned for routine power needs.
- Generator use restricted to essential services like lifts.
- STPs must run round-the-clock; treated wastewater to be reused.
The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has issued directives to Gurugram's resident welfare associations (RWAs) and facility management agencies concerning pollution control.
Non-compliant diesel generator (DG) sets are now prohibited for routine power needs, with mandates for retrofitting or conversion to dual-fuel systems. Their use is restricted to emergency services like lifts and water pumps, aligning with Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) guidelines.
Furthermore, the board emphasized the continuous operation of on-site Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) to prevent untreated wastewater discharge. Treated water must be reused for horticulture and toilet flushing, reducing reliance on fresh water resources.
These measures are part of heightened efforts to combat air pollution in the National Capital Region, addressing critical areas like dust control, waste burning, and construction debris management.
