Gurugram Residents Fight NGT Violation in C&D Waste Plant Plan
30 Jul
Summary
- Residents allege NGT order violations in C&D waste facility setup.
- Tree felling continues despite pending National Green Tribunal case.
- MCG officials and contractor face FIR complaint for environmental breaches.

Residents in Gurugram submitted a complaint to the Rajendra Park police station on Wednesday, seeking an FIR against Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) officials and the contractor involved in a proposed construction and demolition (C&D) waste processing facility. The complaint alleges violations of National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders, specifically citing the establishment of a C&D waste unit without prior Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) approval, as mandated by an NGT order from January 24, 2018.
The residents also highlighted ongoing tree felling at the proposed three-acre site, which is fenced by a newly constructed boundary wall. They argue that no work should proceed while the case is pending before the NGT, which has scheduled a hearing for September 10. Residents expressed concerns that the facility will exacerbate existing poor air quality and expose the community to dust and pollution.
The MCG reportedly awarded the contract for site fencing in October 2025, with construction beginning earlier this year. Reports suggest trees were uprooted without forest department permission, and the HSPCB was not informed of the site, indicating a potential failure to secure necessary environmental clearances. The MCG Commissioner and Executive Engineer have not yet responded to requests for comment on these allegations.
