6 Feb
Summary
- Three graded trails totaling nearly 9km will be developed.
- Local villagers will be trained as eco-guides and support staff.
- Trails will use natural, permeable materials to limit erosion.

A concept plan to establish guided nature trails in the Aravali Hills foothills near Gurgaon has been finalized. This initiative aims to enhance the city's limited green cover by introducing three distinct trails totaling approximately 9 kilometers, commencing from Bhondsi Park. The forest department is seeking proposals from experienced agencies to implement this eco-tourism project.
The trails are designed to cater to varying fitness levels. The first, a 1km wheelchair-friendly loop, will introduce common plants and ecological concepts with shaded paths and benches. The second, a 3km path, will feature more varied terrain, focusing on vegetation zones and local geology. The longest, a 4.75km trek, is intended for small groups seeking quiet observation and advanced nature study.
Emphasis is placed on minimal infrastructure and sustainable materials, such as compacted earth and wood chips for paths, and eco-friendly benches. Signage will be in Hindi and English, utilizing QR codes for enhanced information. Local villagers are being trained as eco-guides and support staff, covering natural history, first aid, and trail maintenance, aligning with Haryana's Ecotourism Policy 2024.
