Gurgaon Residents Revolt Against Garbage Dumps

Hundreds of residents in Gurgaon protested on Sunday at IFC Chowk against the persistent dumping of garbage and construction waste around the Golf Course Extension Road (GCER). Protesters from over 15 colonies urged the Haryana government and civic agencies to implement a robust waste management system. They highlighted that despite GCER's planned makeover, surrounding areas have been neglected dumping grounds for years, severely impacting residents' quality of life and basic hygiene. This protest follows a similar demonstration on December 31, 2025, aiming to maintain focus on the ongoing waste management crisis.

Residents have submitted petitions to various government bodies, including the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), detailing concerns about open dumping and the mixture of construction and demolition (C&D) waste with municipal garbage. Their broader demands include reliable door-to-door segregated waste collection, permanent elimination of dumping hotspots, and stronger monitoring of construction dust and waste disposal. They are also seeking a transparent grievance redressal system for tracking complaints and viewing resolution timelines.

The accumulation of waste has led to obstructed drains, increased air pollution, and safety hazards for pedestrians and commuters. Residents are calling for a dedicated C&D waste processing plant, improved secondary waste transfer points, and an end to using roadsides as dumping sites. They also request increased patrolling and quicker governmental decisions on civic issues, alongside regular inspections of dumping locations to prevent recurrence. The movement also emphasizes the need for waste reduction, segregation, and decentralized waste processing facilities.
