12 Feb
Summary
- Spot fines of Rs 5,000 for first-time offenders in Gurgaon.
- Bulk waste generators face Rs 25,000 penalty for violations.
- NGT ordered a complete ban on dumping solid waste across Haryana.

Gurgaon authorities have introduced significant on-the-spot fines for littering and illegal waste dumping. Individuals caught dumping rubbish in public spaces will be fined Rs 5,000 for a first offense and Rs 10,000 for subsequent violations. Institutions and bulk waste generators face even steeper penalties, starting at Rs 25,000 for the first offense and rising to Rs 50,000 for repeat offenses.
These stringent enforcement measures follow a July 26, 2024 directive from the National Green Tribunal. The NGT mandated a complete ban on dumping solid waste in unauthorized locations across Haryana, citing critical environmental and public health risks. The tribunal highlighted how uncontrolled waste contributes to pollution and infringes upon citizens' right to a healthy environment.
