Gurgaon Air Quality Sees Temporary Dip to Moderate
23 Oct
Summary
- Gurgaon's AQI improved to 193, down from 216 the previous day.
- Pollution remains poor in Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad.
- Experts warn winter conditions will likely worsen air quality soon.
Gurgaon experienced a temporary improvement in air quality on Thursday, with its Air Quality Index (AQI) falling to 193, a shift from the previous day's reading of 216. This brought the city's air into the 'moderate' category.
Despite Gurgaon's AQI improvement, Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad continued to register 'poor' air quality, with AQI readings of 223, 242, and 221 respectively. Gurgaon's AQI had fluctuated, rising from 132 on Monday to 216 on Wednesday before Thursday's dip.
Experts attribute the current improvement to short-term factors and warn that winter's onset will likely exacerbate pollution. Colder temperatures, lower mixing heights, and reduced wind speeds are predicted to trap pollutants near the ground.
Further contributing factors include potential smoke from stubble burning carried by north-westerly winds and ongoing emissions from transportation, industries, and waste. The Central Pollution Control Board classifies AQI readings from 0-50 as 'good' to 401-500 as 'severe'.
