Tiger's Territory Explodes: 120 sq km claimed in Gujarat

A tiger, which entered Gujarat 11 months ago, has significantly broadened its range, now claiming a territory of roughly 120 sq km. This expansion, observed over the past month, suggests the animal is exhibiting territorial behavior and potentially searching for a mate, as no female tigers have been confirmed nearby. Its movements have been documented across Devgadh Baria, Chhota Udepur, and the Sukhi Dam area, all within a 25km radius of Ratanmahal Wildlife Sanctuary.

Recent camera trap footage in Chhota Udepur, along with confirmed pugmarks in Devgadh Baria, indicate the tiger has ventured beyond its initial zone in Dahod district and into adjoining forest patches. This suggests it is utilizing established wildlife corridors connecting forested areas across multiple districts. Forest officials are actively monitoring the tiger's routes and implementing awareness campaigns in villages to ensure community safety.

While the tiger's origin remains unconfirmed, officials expect its behavior may shift with the onset of summer, possibly leading it back towards Ratanmahal. The forest department has intensified its efforts, issuing advisories and maintaining an alert network in affected areas. The animal, which has not yet been tagged, was briefly missing from reports two days ago but was later sighted again within Gujarat.
