In the 2025-26 period, the Gujarat Medicinal Plants Board successfully distributed over 2.8 lakh medicinal saplings across seven state-run gardens. This initiative, operating under the state health department, provides up to 10 saplings free for individuals, 50 for educational institutions, and 500 for farmers.
The board also offers sandalwood saplings from its Gandhinagar garden at a subsidized price of Rs 20 each. The seven gardens, located throughout Gujarat, have become vital centers for farmer subsidies and practical learning experiences for approximately 20,000 students and researchers annually.
Established in 2002, the board aims to ensure a steady supply of quality medicinal plants for traditional healing systems and ayurvedic pharmacies. It actively promotes household remedies, supports commercial cultivation through farmer subsidies, identifies high-return medicinal crops, and collaborates with universities for research.
