14 Jul
Summary
- Greater Noida authority plans to plant 190,000 saplings.
- The drive aims to increase the city's green cover significantly.
- Native species like neem and jamun are being planted.

The Greater Noida authority is undertaking an extensive afforestation drive, aiming to plant approximately 190,000 saplings this monsoon season. This target represents a substantial increase of over 40% compared to the initial projection of 134,000. The campaign is actively underway across various city locations, including parks, green belts, and urban forest areas.
Native tree species, such as pilkhan, neem, jamun, amaltas, and gulmohar, have been selected to bolster the city's green infrastructure. This initiative is a collaborative effort, involving the Give Me Trees Trust, residents' welfare associations, and social organizations. The Greater Noida authority encourages public participation to ensure the survival and growth of the newly planted trees.
In parallel, the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) has also launched a four-day tree plantation campaign across its campuses. This effort, focusing on indigenous species, underscores the broader commitment to promoting sustainable practices and environmental health for future generations. The drive is expected to continue over the coming weeks as part of the authority's annual afforestation program.
